Pack Your Tent is an independent outdoor publication. We make money in two ways — display advertising and affiliate commissions — and this page explains how both work so you can read our reviews with full context.
Affiliate commissions
Many of the product links on Pack Your Tent are affiliate links. If you click one and make a purchase, the retailer pays us a small percentage of the sale. It costs you nothing extra, and it's the same price you'd pay going to the retailer directly.
We participate in affiliate programs with retailers including:

- Osprey, Patagonia, Sea to Summit, Cotopaxi, GSI Outdoors, Columbia and other outdoor brands (directly or via AvantLink, AWIN, Impact, ShareASale)
- Hipcamp, Campspot and AllTrails for bookings and subscriptions
Display ads
We display ads served by Google AdSense (and in time, other premium ad networks). These ads are personalised based on your consent preferences — see our cookie policy for the full story. Advertisers have no influence over our editorial content.
How this affects what we recommend
It doesn't. Commission rates and partnerships never factor into whether a product is featured or how we rate it. If we recommend something, it's because we've either tested it ourselves or done the research and believe it's the best option at its price point.
When a product was provided free by a brand for testing, we say so on the product page. We do not accept payment for positive reviews.
